Hello, I need help with a obsession that I don’t know how to make go away, I’ve been obsessing about racism and about a very intense fear of saying the n word. I’m currently in therapy with someone who does ERP but I haven’t been there many times yet. So every time I think or hear that slur I feel it as if it’s on the tip of my tongue or as if I’m gonna say the first letter or hum it and my compulsions have been to keep my mouth totally still or spit out any saliva cause my mouth gets watery when I hear it. I’ve been trying to swallow or lick my lips whenever my mouth gets watery as an Erp way of getting back to normal but it’s still around and I don’t know how to get rid of it. I also have been asking many people for reassurance or just help on how to get rid of it, and I also have cheating ocd so I’m worried I’m cheating on my girlfriend by asking a support group for help, cause I get groinal movements and weird thoughts while doing that too.

I get this too!! I constantly worry that I'm going to blurt out something racist or homophobic or sexist or something just generally awful to the point that I can't even look at people sometimes. It really sucks and I've never really done any ERP for it. I think the thing with OCD is that ERP is the only way to make it go away, it is the only thing that stops you from feeding the cycle of obsessions and compulsions and temporary relief. I wish I could give you more help, I hope this gets better for you!

If you were a racist you’d be fine with it. The fact you’re concerned disproves it all.
