I’ve had times where I thought of something taboo and bad and masturbated. I hate myself for this. At first I didn’t think anything of it it now it causes great fear. It isn’t something i actually would like it’s disgusting to me. And I read sometimes disgusting things that cause anxiety can cause arousal. So I dont k ow if this was anxiety or real arousal. This has been torturing me for a whole month

Hey, no one on the internet can tell you if this was real arousal you experienced. What we can tell you is that any thought, whether real or not, can subside if you leave it alone. Does that make sense? If you need help with it then we spoke before about seeing a CBT therapist – what do you think of that idea?

I'm sorry but no one can tell you what you felt. I know you're desperate to know and not knowing is causing anxiety, but it's important you understand that looking for answers is only making your thoughts stronger.

Yes, you could definitely feel bad about sonethinf you did (known as guilt)!
Cbt would suggest you do the opposite, which is to leave your thoughts alone and stop looking for answers. I know thats hard to accept but it really does have a good success rate

I know….I feel like I’m taking it way out of proportion though and I mean I guess I know it. I’m gonna assume it was a disgust reaction….I literally just take feeling bad to a whole new level. I automatically think I stink as a human being

Oh yeah and what cbt would apply to this. Would distracting be fine? I think I had convinced myself I’m fine and not a horrible person, it was anxiety and disturbance, but everytime I get on this forum i seem like the thoughts all come back

Distraction is hard for me….apart from ocd I just have an obsessive personality…. even if i take a break from thoughts they’ll come back in a week… I’ve tried

Well that’s good that you think they’re just thoughts. Cbt can definitely help but you have to have a lot of self-control and perseverance. There will be bad days when the anxiety is really bad, but over time you will have less bad days.

Its also good that you have identified going on forums is a trigger for you. That is one of the things you would have to stop in order to leave the thoughts alone. Is there anything else you do that feeds the thoughts? Maybe you spend hours going over the reasons it was ‘real’ vs the reasons it was ‘just a thought’? Or maybe you do a lot of internet reserch to look for ‘answers’?

And it stinks cuz when i have school I get distracted and sometimes I missed class bcz I was googling answers in the bathroom
