If you’ve been watching the new TV drama “My Mad Fat Diary” on E4, then you might already know that it’s loosely based on the memoir (originally titled “My Fat, Mad Teenage Diary”) by Rae Earl.
The TV show (which adds fictional characters to Rae’s story) is about a sixteen-year-old girl (Rae) struggling to cope with a number of issues – including some mental health conditions.
We spotted an interesting article in The Guardian – and you can read the full article here. In this Guardian story, Rae Earl talks about her real life, growing up in Lincolnshire and trying to deal with a range of mental health issues – including Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
If you’ve been affected by OCD, or if you’ve been struggling with any kind of mental health condition, then you might be able to relate to some of the things Rae describes in this article. Rae talks about some of her obsessions (including the threat of nuclear war), and about some of her compulsions. (Praying; counting; checking; and opening and closing the front door exactly 36 times…)
